The Shang Dynasty ruled many parts of northern and central China. The capital was located at Anyang; near the border of Henan from about 1384 BCE. The Shang Dynasty was located right below the Yellow River (Huang He) in the north. Here, their priorities consisted of growing millet, wheat, and barley, these were their primary crops. They also raised silkworm, pigs, dogs, sheep, and oxen.

The people also were big in metallurgy, making bronze ships, weapons, and tools. Bronze was also used to make enormous vases made from exquisite casting techniques. These vases were large enough to hold a man and were decorated with chinese characters, plants, and animals. To make these vases, they made small pieces, one by one, and put each one together.
